OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW

For this project, I aim to explore the rich connotations and denotations of African art, particularly within the realm of fashion. Drawing inspiration from the intricate symbolism and abstraction found in African art, I seek to create pieces that go beyond mere representation. By incorporating tangible elements like beads, cowries, and raffia.

DESIGN DIRECTION

DESIGN DIRECTION

Mtindo, a term translating to ‘Style’ in Swahili, is a conceived African apparel brand rejoicing in traditional fabrics and artisan skills. The emblem's ‘M’ mirrors a homestead top, embodying a couture establishment where African patterns are manifested, while the irregular contour underlines the brand's handmade creativity.

My color choices, with names like "Golden Harvest" and "Desert Sand," reveal a grounding in the natural world, suggesting a connection to tangible elements. The warmth of "Golden" and "Cream" hints at a preference for inviting tones that reflect a warm personality or an intention to create welcoming spaces.
